Gloom

I definitely don’t want to be all doom and gloom but good Lord life is rough right now. I know God has a plan and all things work together for our good. That is the only thing we have to hold on to. The return of Christ is nigh and I can not wait. I can’t wait to see it for myself, the thing we have waited and devoted our entire life to! Praise God!

Happy Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. As the world and media attempt to demonize the holiday, I can’t help but think of what I am thankful for.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Psalm 100:4

Today I am thankful for the Truth, Acts 2:38 plan of salvation, and for being filled with God’s precious Spirit. Surrounding those things, life is perfect. Without them, life wouldn’t be worth living, but He chose me and my family to serve Him. He has blessed us for sure!

As we sit down to eat, I know I will be reminded of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, which we will be having before too long. So, today, be thankful to God. Be thankful for what we do have, as insignificant as it might seem. I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving from the Gurley’s!

The Seasons

I love the changing of the seasons. That’s why I don’t like really living in tropical areas, although they have their upsides. But I love fall most of all. Seeing the changing colors, the crisp fall air, the smells of burning leaves and bonfires. I love it. But what is so interesting about fall is, everything is dying. The leaves changes these gorgeous colors because they are loosing their clorophyl and going through marcesence. These leaves lose their ability to even stay attached to what grew them. They slowing go from green, to red, to yellow, to orange, to brown, to crunchy, then to the ground. The process is so beautiful.

My wife and I honeymooned in Gatlinburg. It was so busy. Aftwe a few days of being there, we were informed that all the “leaf watchers” were there. I asked what that was, and they said just what it sounds like. People travel from all over to watch the leaves change and fall. It is something that a lot of people find beautiful.

Spring is just the opposite, its all new life. New flowers, new grass, new leaves to replace the ones that gloriously died the autumn before.

It takes a beautiful death for a new life to be born. There are a slew of ways that you could go with that one statement.

Change is hard. Sometimes it’s scary, fun, happy, sad, or all of the emotions. Change can hurt. In God, we shoud constantly be changing towards his will. We should constanly be growing, until we turn brown and crunchy and die. But that change in the right direction can be just like the leaves on the trees during Autumn. It’s beautiful, it’s pretty, but it’s death. Something is dying on that tree. Just like with us, when God changes us and molds and makes us, things have to die.

I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

1 Corinthians 15:31

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Matthew 16:25

Change is good for us. In the fire, the gold is tried and purified. It is hot sometimes, it is melty and sticky, sometimes it is a downright mess, but God is doing something in you in the pain.
